one of the most expensive house

I was curious to find out what is currently the most expensive house in the world. Turns out, you would only need to buy a house for more than 70million pounds to be the owner of the most expensive house in the world. That’s not too bad, aye? Pocket change as far as I’m concerned. However, i’ve checked through various sources and apparently 2 houses in the UK sold for a rumoured 70million pounds, so I guess there are 2 houses that can be considered the most expensive house in the world.

PROPERTY 1

Here’s the first one, Updown Court. You’ll need a spare 1million pounds a year just to run this damn thing.

It’s located 25 miles outside of London. Among the estate’s neighbours are the Duchess of York, Elton John, and, at nearby Windsor Castle, the Queen. So, what exactly would you get for your money? Well, you know, just the basic:

  • 103 rooms
  • five swimming pools
  • 50-seat screening room
  • 24-carat-gold leafing flooring
  • squash court
  • bowling alley
  • all-weather, floodlit tennis courts
  • 58-acre estate
  • 22 bedroom and bathroom suites
  • Gate lodge
  • estate manager’s office
  • Private cinema
  • Stables
  • Heated marble driveway
  • Underground garaging for eight limousines
  • a shooting gallery
  • 30 self-contained luxury apartments

IS THAT ALL?
Don’t be silly. The master bedroom has its own swimming pool accessed by a private glass lift. The roof has an infinity pool and hot tub encased by a glass barrier that allowed sky and water to meet. The reception hall occupies a footprint larger than most five-bedroom houses. It is dominated by marble columns and a sweeping double staircase modelled on one owned by fashion designer Versace.

So, who owns this little shack?
Apparently the proud owner of Updown Court is multi-billionaire crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The racehorse owner, who already owns a property in Chertsey in Surrey, is expected to entertain official guests at the mansion.

PROPERTY 2

Again, apparently rumoured to be the most expensive house in the world. It’s located in Kensington Palace Gardens in West London, which has been bought by one of the richest tycoons living in Britain. For some reason, there’s really not that much information available about this property, especially compared to Updown Court. It formerly belonged to Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One racing boss, who bought the home for £50 million as a surprise gift for his wife. The Kensington Palace gardens houses are dubbed ‘billionaires’ row. Nearby are Kensington Palace and the London home of the Sultan of Brunei. It consists of the former Egyptian embassy and a one-time annex to Russia’s embassy knocked together.

What do you get for your money?
To be honest, I don’t really know. Like I said, information is limited. However, I do know you only get 12 bedrooms. Pffft. For 70 million I want at least 20 bedrooms, so who knows why it cost so damn much? There are literally no pictures of this property available, so you’ll have to settle for this ONE (I’m sorry guys)…

  • 12 bedrooms
  • garage space for 20 cars
  • turkish baths
  • a ballroom
  • an oak-paneled picture gallery
  • ornate basement pool
  • Jewelled pool
  • controlled by 65 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras
  • more than 9,000 sq ft of the same marble used in the Taj Mahal is incorporated in the design.

latest gadget

First off, it's beautiful. Showing off gadgetry is easy but showing off this Lenovo is something else. Apart from the two available finishes (hairline and textured), the G450 is awesomely sleek! So thin is this Lenovo that sliding it in and out of your bag is as natural as grabbing a handful of peanuts during inuman. You won't be straining a pretty muscle carrying this 2.4kg laptop.

Its performance is just as beautiful. A high-definition 16-inch screen, along with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD guarantees spectacular visuals. Its Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6500 and 2 GB of RAM offer hitch-free performance. You can open a mountain-load of windows and simultaneously run applications and this laptop will still be going. Saving a ton of files is possible, too, since this laptop has 320GB of hard drive space to spare.

Its WiFi b/g capabilities, LAN port and 56k modem only mean quality Facebook time. Three USB ports, meanwhile, assures you a headquarters of sorts. Plug away your gadgetry and do a big file transfer party. All in one go. Convenient, yes?

But the happiest thing about the G450? It takes security concerns seriously. It has a Veriface tech, which lets you use your face as password. At under P33 grand, the G450 is most certainly a value-packed deal.

Red Fox Wizbook N1020i

It's rather obvious by now: the netbook market is fast-growing. Not a week passes by without some laptop manufacturer launching their tiny one. While the netbook itself is quite diminutive in form, the market is already getting pretty homogenized. How else can you pimp a tiny little thing, really?

That said, it's safe to say that the Red Fox Wizbook N1020i isn't exactly a unique snowflake. Its specs are expected: 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, a gigabyte of RAM (thankfully, upgradeable to 2GB), and a 160 GB hard drive. It's 10.2-inch 1024x600 screen, WiFi a/b/g, and built-in webcam are standard-issue specs, as well.

And based on build, the Wizbook is exactly what a netbook should be: sturdy, solid, lightweight. It should be perfect for any on-the-go dude looking to cram a report inside Starbucks. Except, the Wizbook's keyboard seems to be built for a lady. We know netbooks don't offer much in terms of size, keyboards being the main gripe of folks. But even then, this one feels like an XS.

New Gadget

Westech Korea is launching this new portable wrist-worn GPS device which is designed specifically for sports applications. The Pyxis RGPS-300 features unique modes for tracking all sorts of athletic endeavors including running, biking, hiking, mountain climbing, skiing and even driving. My personal favorite feature is the ability to load up maps of your favorite golf courses and check out how far away you are from the pin.
For now, the device is only available in Korea, but hopefully they’ll see fit to release it in other parts of the world soon.

Samsung jet S8000

Available now
16th June 2009

As you might guess from the name, the Samsung Jet S8000 is intended to be a very fast phone to use. At its heart is an 800 MHz processor, and the Jet also comes with WiFi and HSDPA high-speed downloads. There's a large 3.1" 800 x 480 pixel display, a 5 megapixel camera and GPS too.

Samsung are one of only a small number of mobile phone manufacturers who produce their own processors. In this case, Samsung say that inside the Jet is an 800 MHz Application Processor, which is probably some sort of ARM device. Samsung say that the Jet is the fastest full-touch device on the market, and that would be even faster than the 600 MHz Apple iPhone 3G S.

Before we get carried away with iPhone comparisons, it is important to point out that the Jet isn't a smartphone. It runs the new TouchWiz 2.0 interface with a bespoke Samsung web browser called "Dolfin" which can have up to five pages open at once and comes with a built-in ad blocker. There's a multimedia player and email client, and the Samsung Jet can also integrate with corporate Microsoft Exchange servers. For most potential users, the feature set on the Jet is probably perfectly adequate, but it lacks the advantage of the iPhone's massive selection of applications.

Samsung Jet S8000 We touched on multimedia a moment ago - the Samsung Jet S8000 can play back almost all major audio and video formats, including the ubiquitous MP3, AAC and Windows Media formats plus DivX movies. The Jet has a built-in FM radio and a standard 3.5mm audio socket. The Jet can manage to playback and record D1 video (at least 720 x 480 pixels) at 30 frames per second, which is pretty impressive. The Jet S8000 also has a video editor. All of this media can be stored on microSD cards of up to 16GB.

The 5 megapixel camera on the Jet has autofocus and a dual LED flash. Because it's a Samsung, the Jet's camera also has smile detection and panoramic stitching, plus it can use the Jet's GPS system to geo-tag photographs.

Samsung Jet S8000 Underneath, this is a quad-band GSM phone with 900 / 2100 MHz UMTS, with HSPDA download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. In fact, the HSDPA speed is one potential weak point when some rivals will soon be topping 10 Mbps. WiFi is supported too, as is Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0. The S8000 measures 109 x 54 x 12mm and weighs a pretty lightweight 110 grams. The 1100 mAh battery provides a maximum talktime of 5 hours on 3G and 8 hours on GSM with around 17 days standby time.

In terms of styling, this is a pretty standard black slabby device bit a few colour highlights on the back, and an unusually shaped navigation button on the front which is just about the only distinctive feature.

The Samsung Jet S8000 should be available from June onwards. In the UK, it is available exclusively on Vodafone where's it is free on contracts of over £20 per month. Elsewhere in Europe, a SIM-free S8000 will be around €500 for the base model or €550 including navigation and mapping, with a rollout happening across the next couple of months.

We think that this is a pretty good phone, and the fast processor in it should make using it a very pleasant experience. Even so, it lacks the sexiness and flexibility of the iPhone, and Samsung may well find itself outmatched.

As a tech guy I am always looking at new gadgets. I will admit I rarely look to buy because electronics are not cheap, especially on the cutting edge. But, I love to keep up with what could be “The Next Big Thing” out of personal curiosity.

If you one of these people and you have not found Engadget.com yet, well there it is (<= over there). Go get it. Want to know more? Okay, let me explain.

Engadget.com has a simple premise: it is just a blog about personal electronics. It has an utterly simple design and is updated daily by multiple writers. It’s long on nice pictures and will not waste your time with overwritten multi-page articles, though it occasionally links back to these on other web sites. It covers just about everything from trendy smart phones to new laptops, from next-gen cars to alternate energy. It even has a whole sections dedicated to mobile devices and televisions. For my own use I am researching possibilities for a new laptop and a replacement for my dreadful MotoQ. Engadget.com makes it easy for me to keep up with all that is new in tech easily, without having to scour multiple tech sites.

I subscribed to Engadget.com several months ago based on the recommendation of a friend and haven’t been disappointed.

sony roll

In addition to playing back music from its internal memory the Rolly can also receive music streamed via a Bluetooth connection.
As far as I'm concerned the best part of the Rolly is its reported ability to analyze music and come up with the dance moves. Users can even program the Rolly's moves themselves.
The gadget is small enough to fit in your hand and comes standard with 1GB of internal memory (some 500 songs, though programing the Rolly with more complex dance moves will diminish that capacity), stereo speakers, and a five hour battery life.It goes on sale in Japan on September 29 for equivalent of about $353 U.S.. No word whether it will make to the U.S. for sale. My fingers are crossed it will. No, I'm not interested in buying one. As one whose music collection may be sorely lacking in danceable tunes, I couldn't see myself dropping $350 on the Rolly. With gadgets as susceptible to price cuts as they are these days, maybe Sony will cut the price sometime in October? In the meantime I'm hoping one of my friends will buy one instead so I can play with it.If Sony's marketing campaign is any proof, it appears trying to imitate the thing on the dance floor is half the fun of owning one. Here is a link to an amusing commercial for the Sony Rolly airing in Japan where people try to keep pace with Rolly moves.
